Game Overview

"No Thanks!" is a popular and engaging card game designed by Lorenzo Silva. It can be played by 2 to 5 players and requires a deck of 33 cards and 55 chips. The objective of the game is to minimize the points you accumulate by choosing not to accept cards with high values, while also collecting unbroken number sequences to reduce the value of those sequences.

Objective

The player with the fewest points at the end of the game wins.

Setup

1. Each player receives 11 chips. If there are only three or four players, any remaining chips can be put back into the box.
2. Shuffle the cards and set aside 9 cards. The remaining 24 cards form a face-down deck.
3. Place the deck in the center of the table.
4. Determine the starting player by any agreed-upon method.

How to Play

1. The starting player turns over the top card of the deck, placing it face-up next to the deck.
2. The player can either accept the card and add it to their points total, or decline the card by placing one of their chips next to it.
3. Play passes clockwise, and the next player has the same decision: either accept the card (including any chips next to it) or decline it and pay one of their own chips.
4. This continues until all cards have been claimed. When a player accepts a card, they take the chips next to it and turn over the next card from the deck.
5. Players can decline cards multiple times if they wish, and multiple chips can accumulate next to a card.
6. During the game, players should keep their chips hidden in their hand to prevent other players from seeing them.
7. Cards with unbroken number sequences count as the value of the lowest number in the sequence. For example, if a player has the 8 and the 9 in front of them, they only count as 8 points.
8. To avoid taking a card, a player must pay a chip. It is beneficial to have many chips to decline cards you don't want and to minimize your points at the end of the game.

Scoring and End of Game

1. At the end of the game, each player calculates their final score by adding up the values of their single cards, plus the value of the lowest card in each unbroken number sequence they have in front of them.
2. From the total, players subtract the number of chips they still have.
3. The player with the lowest final score wins the game.
