Yu-Gi-Oh! is a popular Trading Card Game (TCG) originally created by Kazuki Takahashi. The game requires two players and the necessary materials include a deck of cards, a Dueling field (consisting of a Standard Monster Zone, a Pendulum Zone, an Extra Deck, and a Side Deck), a Dueling mat, and Dueling Life Points. Objective

The objective of the game is to reduce your opponent's Life Points to zero while maintaining a higher number of your own Life Points.

Setup

1. Shuffle each player's deck and set it face-down in their respective Deck Zones.
2. Draw five cards from each deck, creating a starting hand.
3. Set the Dueling field as follows:
   • Place 5 card zones as Standard Monster Zones horizontally.
   • Place 1 card zone as the Pendulum Zone for each player vertically (if using Pendulum Monsters).
   • Place an Extra Deck and a Side Deck within reach of both players.
4. Set each player's Life Points to 8,000.

How to Play

1. Each player draws one card from their Deck at the beginning of their turn (Draw Phase).
2. The Main Phase begins with the player performing actions like setting cards in Monster Zones, activating Spell and Trap Cards, and Special Summoning monsters.
3. The Battle Phase involves declaring an attack, determining combat outcomes, and resolving battle effects.
4. The Main Phase 2 allows for additional card activation and monster effects.
5. The End Phase is used to perform mandatory actions such as setting cards face-down in the Graveyard or checking if there are any cards that need to be moved from the Pendulum Zone due to certain conditions.
6. Players take turns performing these steps until one player achieves the objective. Here's an example: Player A has a Level 4 monster called "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" in their hand, and Player B has no monsters on the field. In Player A's Battle Phase, they declare an attack on Player B's Life Points with their "Blue-Eyes White Dragon," reducing Player B's Life Points by 2,500 (the card's attack points).

Scoring and End of Game

The game ends when one player achieves the objective (reducing the opponent's Life Points to zero) or when both players agree to a draw. If you run out of cards in your Deck during your Draw Phase, you immediately lose the Duel.

Common Variants

There are several variants of Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, including Speed Duel and Pendulum Format, which change the game's structure slightly. Consult the official rulebook for more information on these variants.

Beginner Mistakes to Avoid

1. Not understanding card text: Some cards have complex effects that can be difficult to understand at first. Take your time to read and comprehend each card before using it in a Duel.
