Game Overview

Objective

Setup

To set up the game, shuffle a standard 52-card deck and deal seven piles with cards face down and one card face up on each pile from left to right. The first pile has one card, the second pile has two cards, and so on until the seventh pile contains seven cards. The remaining cards form the stockpile. Turn the top card of each tableau pile face up, exposing 28 cards. Place the rest of the deck in a face-down pile called the waste pile or reserve pile.

How to Play

1. The four aces are placed on the four empty spaces above the seven piles (the foundation).
2. Build sequences of cards in each suit on their respective foundations, starting from an ace and continuing upwards in ascending order (A-K).
3. Move any available cards to open tableau piles by placing them next to an exposed card of opposite color and one rank higher or lower. For example, a black 5 can be played on a red 6. If more than one card is face up on a tableau pile, all such cards must be moved as a unit.
4. When no more moves can be made from the tableau piles, turn over the top card of the stockpile and reveal three cards. You may use any of these cards for building if possible, or place them on the waste pile. If a card is used, the card below it becomes available for play.
5. The game ends when all cards are either on the foundations or in the waste pile.

Scoring and End of Game

Unlike many other solitaire games, Klondike Solitaire does not have a scoring system. Instead, the focus is on successfully building the four suits and clearing the tableau and waste piles as quickly as possible. The game ends when either all cards are on the foundations or no further moves can be made from the tableau and waste piles.

• Klondike Two-Deck: Uses two decks, dealing ten piles instead of seven, and adding a second stockpile when the first one runs out.
• Klondike Three-Deck: Similar to Two-Deck Klondike but with three decks and 13 tableau piles.
• Klondike One-Card Draw: A more challenging variation where only one card is turned from the stockpile instead of three, with the added rule that cards can be moved back to the waste pile if they cannot be played elsewhere.
