Exploding Kittens: A Comprehensive Guide to the Popular Card Game

Game Overview

"Exploding Kittens" is a hilarious, card-based game created by Elan Lee, Shane Small, and Matthew Inman. It is suitable for 2-5 players, aged 7 and above, and requires a standard deck of 50 or 56 cards (the original Exploding Kittens deck, or a custom deck created using the NSFW or other expansion packs).

Objective

Setup

1. Shuffle the deck thoroughly.
2. For a 2-player game, remove 10 cards from the deck; for 3-5 players, remove 15 cards.

How to Play

1. On their turn, a player can do one of the following actions:

   • Discard a card from their hand and draw a card from the draw pile.
   • Use a card from their hand to take an action, such as skipping the next player's turn, looking at cards in the Draw Three pile, or defusing an Exploding Kitten card.

2. If a player draws an Exploding Kitten card, they must immediately show the card and then choose one of the following options:

   • Play a Defuse card from their hand to save themselves and pass the Exploding Kitten to another player (who can then attempt to defuse it or lose the game).
   • Choose to "Shuffle in" the Exploding Kitten card, placing it at the bottom of the draw pile to potentially draw it again in the future.

3. If a player runs out of cards in their hand, they must draw until they have five cards, but they can only draw from the Draw Three pile if it has less than three cards. If the Draw Three pile is empty, players can only draw from the draw pile.

Scoring and End of Game

The game continues until one player remains without Exploding Kitten cards. That player is the winner. If multiple players run out of cards at the same time, they can continue playing until a winner is determined.

Common Variants

The game can be made more challenging by adding more Exploding Kitten cards or increasing the number of cards removed from the deck during setup for more players. The "NSFW" and "Impossible" card expansions can also be added for a more humorous and difficult gaming experience.
