Objective

The objective of The Mind is to work as a team and play all the cards in sequence from 1 to 100 without discussing or signaling to each other. Successfully completing this challenge will test your sense of time, concentration, and ability to read the intentions of others.

Setup

To set up the game, first place the lives and throwing stars openly on the table, keeping any extras nearby. Stack the level cards in ascending order and place them alongside the lives and throwing stars. The number of levels used depends on the number of players:

• 2 players: levels 1 - 12
• 3 players: levels 1 - 10
• 4 players: levels 1 - 8

Shuffle the 100 number cards and deal one card to each player for level 1. Place the remaining cards face down at the edge of the table.

How to Play

At the start of each round (level), have all players place one hand palm-down on the table to signal they are ready. Once everyone is focused, remove their hands from the table, and the game begins. Players may play cards in any order, but must always play the lowest available card first, followed by subsequent lower cards. No communication or secret signals are allowed between players during the game.

If players correctly play all their cards in ascending order, they have completed that level and move on to the next one. The uppermost level card is discarded, and all cards are shuffled again for the next round. Each player receives one more card than in the previous round.

Scoring and End of Game

The game continues until either the team completes all levels or loses all their lives. If a player plays a card out of sequence, the team immediately loses a life. The game ends when the team loses its last life or successfully completes all levels. Completing levels awards throwing stars and lives as depicted on the level cards.

Common Variants

The Mind also offers an "Extreme" variant for more experienced players, in which the number of levels is increased to 16 for 2-4 players. Additionally, a blind mode can be played after completing all levels by turning the cards face down and checking the sequence at the end of each level. If a player makes a mistake, they lose a life as usual.

Beginners should focus on understanding the game's rhythm and not rushing to play their cards too quickly. It is essential to learn when to hold back and when to play aggressively.
