Game Overview

The Digimon Card Game is a collectible trading card game based on the popular anime series "Digimon." It was first released in Japan in 2000 and has since expanded to various regions worldwide. Objective

The objective of the game is to reduce your opponent's Digital Energy (DE) to 0 or to have more DE remaining when your opponent runs out of cards in their deck.

Setup

Each player begins with a Life Gauge that starts at 10,000 DE and a deck of 60 cards (minimum). Players also need a Game Mat, which includes spaces for the Life Gauge, Digital Area, and D-Pad (Digital Zone). The D-Pad is further divided into three sections: Drive Area, Ride Area, and Chip Area.

Players shuffle their decks, draw 5 cards each, and place the remaining cards in a face-down Deck Pile. Each player then draws a card from their deck to form their starting hand. The player who goes first is chosen randomly or determined by another method agreed upon by both players.

How to Play

Draw Phase: Draw one card from your Deck Pile and add it to your hand, if possible. If you cannot draw a card (i.e., your Deck Pile is empty), you lose the game.
Standby Phase: Check for any ongoing effects that trigger during this phase.
Main Phase: This is where you can perform various actions, such as playing Digimon cards from your hand, activating skills or abilities, and moving Digimon between areas on your Game Mat.
- Digital Area: This is the main battlefield where Digimon fight against each other. You can only have 5 Digimon in total in this area, with no more than 3 Digimon of the same Attribute (Vaccine, Data, or Virus) at a time.
- Drive Area: This is where your current Digimon's Drive (special ability) card is placed. You can only have one Digimon in the Drive Area at a time.
- Ride Area: Here, you can place your Ride (evolved) form of a Digimon. Each Ride has specific requirements to be met before it can be ridden, such as having a certain number or type of Digimon in the Digital Area.
- Chip Area: This area is used for additional effects and support provided by Chip cards. You can have up to 5 Chips at a time.
Battle Phase: If you have two or more Digimon in the Digital Area, they will automatically attack each other. The attacking Digimon's Attack Power is compared to the defending Digimon's Defense Power. If the attacking Digimon's power exceeds the defending Digimon's power, the defending Digimon loses HP equal to the difference. If the defending Digimon's power exceeds the attacking Digimon's power, no damage is dealt.
- Concrete Example: Player A has a Vaccine-attribute Mega level Digimon with an Attack Power of 3000 in the Digital Area and wants to attack Player B's Data-attribute Champion level Digimon with a Defense Power of 2500. In this case, Player A's Digimon deals 500 points of damage to Player B's Digimon (3000 - 2500 = 500).
End Phase: Check for any ongoing effects that trigger during this phase.

Repeat the phases until one player has 0 or less DE or runs out of cards in their Deck Pile, indicating they have lost the game.

Scoring and End of Game

The player who reduces their opponent's DE to 0 wins the game. If both players run out of cards in their Deck Piles simultaneously, the player with the most remaining DE is the winner.

There are various formats and rule variations in the Digimon Card Game, such as Singles (1 vs 1), Doubles (2 vs 2), and Advanced Format (AF) tournaments. Familiarize yourself with these variants to enjoy different play styles and competition levels.
